Madagascar:
Fly Emirates coming soon to Madagascar

This trip to Dubai provided Andry Rajoelina the opportunity to meet Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of Emirates Airline & Group, to finalize future commercial agreements with the Emirati airline.

The topic was mentioned during Madagascar's Transport Minister’s signing with Qatar.

For now, it is solely about round-trip connections: Dubai, Antananarivo and Dubai, Nosy Be.

The arrival of Fly-Emirates on the Big Island has been discussed since 2015. It could become a reality in the coming months. This arrival, like that of Qatar Airways,
involves significant hotel investments. The UAE is also expected to invest in digital, according to Madagascar-Tribune.

Madagascar:
Upcoming Qatar Airways service

Good news for tourism in Madagascar: Qatar Airways is considering launching a new route to Antananarivo, which could attract new visitors.

Malagasy civil aviation has signed an agreement with Qatar, opening the destination to Qatar Airways flights. Seven flights per week are planned from Doha.

Qatar Airways is a major airline known for its reliability, offering a network of 170 destinations across all continents. The service start date has not yet been set.

Currently, 11 airlines serve Madagascar. The Ministry of Tourism estimates that increasing destinations will open new tourism markets. For now, it is primarily the island of Nosy Be that benefits, receiving more long-haul travelers than the capital.

Madagascar aims to reach one million tourists per year within 5 years. Meanwhile, the national carrier, Air Madagascar (now Madagascar Airlines), has suspended its international services for an indefinite period.

Tourism:
Major investors to attract

Doubling down. The attack plan for Madagascar’s tourism sector is taking shape and focuses on attracting major investors to develop tourism. This was outlined yesterday by Christian Ntsay, head of government, before parliament.
“For this term, the efforts will be maintained. The tourism sector will focus more on attracting more major investors, whether Malagasy or foreign,” he stated. Indeed, the tourism sector will need more investment as the country aims to increase its hotel infrastructure.

It should be noted that the Big Island requires an additional eleven thousand rooms to accommodate the expected visitors by 2028. Unless there is a dramatic change—be it health, financial, or otherwise—the country is expected to welcome its first million tourists within five years.
